Adult Clinic Therapists
DR HENDRIK HINRICHSEN:
I am a friendly and experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist who has helped adults make use of therapy to address their difficulties for over 20 years. Alongside private practice, I also work in the NHS as a Head of Psychology & Psychotherapies for Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) and Primary Care for South West London & St. George’s Mental Health Trust.
In terms of my background, I am originally German and came to the UK in 1992, initially to complete a Bachelor (BSc) degree in psychology at the University of Bristol (1992-1995). Having been awarded a 1st Class degree I was able to apply for and complete a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Oxford, studying under Professor David Clark, between 1996 and 1999. Following the completion of the doctorate I decided to specialise further in CBT and completed a part-time Masters (MSc) in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London (2000-2002) with Merit.
For the last 10 years, I have been clinically leading IAPT Services at South West London & St. George’s NHS Trust. Prior to this I held senior clinician roles at St. George’s Eating Disorder Service at Springfield Hospital and at the Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma (CADAT) at the Maudsley Hospital. I am registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC)* as a Practitioner Psychologist, and accredited with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)* as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Practitioner and supervisor.
Over the last 20 years I have published a number of academic journal articles investigating cognitive processes in eating disorders and anxiety disorders (see below). I am a co-author of two books (one for clinicians, one for patients) on the treatment of eating disorders using CBT.
